Rose Hill Raid

The background image was extracted from a painting by the famed Civil War artist John Paul Strain.   The painting, "Rose Hill Raid", depicts Col. John Singleton Mosby's raid on Rose Hill in which Mosby and one of his raiders named Dulany captured the raider's father, Col. Daniel F. Dulany, at the house that once stood at the end of what is now May Boulevard.

A canvas reproduction of the original is on permanent display in the community room of the John Marshall Library. It is a numbered copy and is signed by the artist.  Those members of RHCA who contributed toward the cost of the painting and its frame are recognized in a separate framed document that explains the raid.
